Iirc, the monument to Wollstonecraft isn't actually meant to be her? I agree that it's not a great one TO her, and it's pretty confusing that they'd choose an "everywoman" statue instead of her personally. I really don't understand what went wrong.
I have to wonder why, considering the whole point was to have a statue of Wollstonecraft, they went with THIS. Did the artist insist upon this design and they didn't want anyone else, did someone from Mary on the Green actually comission it, what happened???
Right. not sure. Though it's always true that when you commission an artist you agree to trust (and not police) their vision. Which is why it's a long process of selection, etc. another way this is all so tricky!
